Børglum Monastery - the historic centre of Vendsyssel with impressive 13th century cathedral. Access to 3000m2 historical and artistic exhibition on Stygge Krumpen and Chr. Michael Rottbøll. In 2011 the abbey was setting for TV2's advent calendar tv- series "Ludvig and Santa Claus" - see exhibition in the abbey.
The Boerglum monastery was built from 1035 to 1220 by Augustiner munks. Later it was the Praemonstratenser munks who lived at the abbey. The Boerglum abbey worked as a monastery for munks until the reformation in 1536, where it became crown lands, and from 1536 to 1669 the yard was runned by royal selected vassals until it in 1669 was passed into private ownership. The Boerglum monastery has been rebuilt in 1650 and in 1750, latest by royal masterbuilder Laurids de Thura. Today it is Anne and Hans Rotboell who own/live in the old buildings together with their family, and they are 6th and 7th generation of the Rottboell family who owns the Boerglum monastery. Mr. and Mrs. Roetboell have opened the church for the public and they have also opened several exhibitions about life at the monastery/the manor house. Furthermore, during the summer period there are several artists who show their arts there.10% discount for groups over 10 persons.
