The Concert Hall
The Concert Hall is designed by the famous French architect Jean Nouvel, and is one of the new architectural attractions in Copenhagen.
In January 2012 the Concert Hall was named as one of the ten Greatest halls of the new millennium by the renowned British magazine Gramophone.
Decisive choices and big contrasts mark the Concert Hall. Mat, grey concrete walls play up to floors of bright steel squares, and from the glass roof in the spacious foyer there is a glimpse of the stars.
French and Japanese
The Concert Hall actually houses four different halls. Each varies in architecture and expression, ranging from the big hall in warm colours, over the cooler one in black and white, to the intimate hall in red.
The architect Jean Nouvel has worked closely together with the Japanese acoustic specialist Yasuhisa Toyota, and each of the four halls have variable acoustics that can be tailored to a given ensemble or musical genre.
Guided Tours in English for individuals are available in July and August, Tuesday and Thursday. Tickets must be purchased in advance.
