The Sculpture ”Våren” (springtime)
In 1937 the town of Skanderborg won the race against other Danish towns and succeeded in landing the national exhibition with the title ”Technology, Nature, Culture”. An estimate of about 130,000 guests came to see the national exhibition during the exhibition period from 3 to 21 June.
The female figure called “Springtime” on a plinth of hogweed in the small fountain is a remaining memory of this national exhibition. The sculptor Mathilius Schack Elo (1887-1948) created the sculpture specifically for the national exhibition of 1937.
The town bought “Springtime” after the exhibition. When Hotel Skanderborghus was built in 1961, the sculpture was moved closer to the lake.
