Smoking and smoking restrictions

Cigarettes and tobacco in general can be purchased from kiosks, grocer's shops, petrol stations, etc. A packet of 20 cigarettes (Danish) costs DKK 33,00/EURO 4,43. Smoking is at the moment permitted unless there is a no-smoking sign. Smoking is not allowed on domestic flights, buses, on board the trains going to Copenhagen Airport and on to Malmö, Sweden, and in many taxis.

15 August 2007 the smoking ban will take effect in Denmark. Smoking is from then on banned in all indoor public places, making it illegal to smoke in virtually all 'enclosed' and 'substantially enclosed' public places and workplaces. Many places - such as cinemas and public transport - have rarely permitted smoking in recent years, so places like pubs, restaurants, cafes and nightclubs will now have the same rules. Many workplaces and places of education will also feel the change; staff and student smoking rooms and indoor smoking areas are no longer allowed, so anyone who wants to smoke during work hours has to go outside.
