On a city-break holiday to the Oresund region, you actually get to know two cities, Malmo in Sweden and the Danish capital Copenhagen. Both are less than two hours away from the UK thanks to frequent flights with SAS Scandinavian Airlines.

Both countries are also known for their care and respect for environment and sustainable future issues. If you do too, these forthcoming September events might be of great interest.
THE ESSENTIAL DESIGN EVENT FOR A CHANGING WORLD

Copenhagen Design Week takes place for the first time from 27 August to 6 September 2009

Copenhagen Design Week is an international event that presents new ideas, knowledge and products - design that generates possibilities for a changing world. For one week, established and new design events are brought together to provoke, excite and inspire. As a prelude to COP15, the UN Climate conference that will be held in the Danish capital later in the year, the theme is sustainable design. It will cover a broad spectrum from household items and architecture to transport.

CO2PENHAGEN 2009

Denmark’s most innovative showcase of Entertaining experiences and green technology, 4-6 September 2009

This is the first time ever that a music and art festival will run entirely on renewable energy. The goal is to visualize the knowledge already present at technical universities and spotlight truly green products. It all takes place in a CO2-neutral miniature society surrounded by art and music.

The battery driven CityCirkel buses run every seven minutes and this new and eco-friendly way to discover the city takes one hour. … AND MALMO HAS THE WESTERN HARBOUR!

From Copenhagen, Malmo in Sweden is just 35 minutes away by high-speed trains leaving every 20 minutes. On the waterfront, a stone’s throw from the traditional commercial centre of town, is the new fashionable area everybody is talking about; The Western Harbour. You cannot miss it, as the tallest building in Scandinavia; The Turning Torso is part of this new and exciting development. Closer to ground however, you find an area with some 350 homes and apartments world renowned for their sustainable qualities.
Bicycle and pedestrian traffic has been given priority, with a frequent bus service to the city centre, run on alternative fuel. Great care is also given to local flora and fauna. It is an area worth visiting and a real pleasure to explore.

This is also the place to have fun, with lots of bars and restaurants, many offering fabulous views of the Oresund Bridge and the Oresund strait that links Sweden with Denmark.

Salt och Brygga, for example, is located in this area and is a Slow Food certified restaurant that has won several gastronomic awards. Its interior design has green under-tones rooted in the soil of Skåne and everything served is organic and environmentally friendly.
