Three walking tours through Korsør’s green retreat

Korsør Lystskov stretches across 130 hectares along the coast south of the town of Korsør in Slagelse Municipality, and the forest is one of the most popular destinations for locals and visitors alike. Three marked walking trails ranging from 2 to 6 kilometres lead through the forest’s varied landscape, and you can start from five different points along Skovvej. This makes it easy to tailor your walk to the day and the mood you are in.

The walking trails in the Lystskov are suitable for all ages and fitness levels. The shorter routes are well suited to families with young children or a leisurely afternoon stroll, while the longest route at 6 kilometres offers a proper workout for those who want more. Along the way, you pass dense deciduous woodland, open glades and spots with views over the Great Belt – a combination that makes every walk something special.

A forest layered with history

Korsør Lystskov is far more than a nature area. The forest contains a number of historical monuments that bear witness to the region’s long history. Here you will find traces from both ancient and more recent times, and the cultural heritage elements add an extra dimension to the walks. These are the kind of details that make you stop and wonder – and that make a return visit just as interesting as the first.

The forest also serves as a production woodland, and you can see clear signs of active forestry along the way. This gives Korsør Lystskov an honest and authentic character that sets it apart from more manicured nature areas. Here, nature and human use exist side by side, and that is precisely what makes the place so appealing.

Rich nature close to town

The wildlife in the Lystskov is diverse. Deer can often be spotted at the forest edge in the early morning hours, and birdlife is abundant throughout the year. In spring, wood anemones unfold like a white carpet beneath the great beech trees, and in autumn the forest is painted in warm shades of gold and red. The flora encompasses both native species and rarer plants that you can keep an eye out for along the trails.

It is the forest’s proximity to Korsør town that makes it particularly accessible. From Korsør Station it is only a few minutes’ drive to the forest entrances, and public transport makes it easy to get here too. You do not need to plan a whole day – an hour’s walk in the Lystskov can be just what you need for fresh air and a clear head.

Sport and outdoor life in the forest

Beyond the walking tours, Korsør Lystskov offers a setting for a wide range of outdoor activities. Runners make frequent use of the forest trails, and the area is well suited to both training and relaxation in the open air. For families with children, the forest is an ideal place to explore nature, build dens and play freely.

Experiences in the area

Korsør Lystskov lies in the heart of an area rich in experiences. The town of Korsør itself offers a charming harbour, historic buildings and a lively cultural scene. To the south, Korsør Nor opens up with its distinctive coastal landscape, and following the coast further you reach Skælskør with its colourful harbour houses. To the west lies Halsskov with views over the Great Belt. Discover even more experiences and inspiration for your visit to West Zealand at destinationsjaelland.dk.
