Romanesque church with historical features

Linå Church near Silkeborg is a Romanesque church with roots in the Middle Ages. The church stands where the old main roads between Aarhus, Ringkøbing, Skanderborg and Viborg once met, and its size bears witness to the site’s historical significance.

Granite portals and the church interior

The church is particularly known for its two granite portals, which originally served as the women’s and men’s entrances. Inside the church, you can see a Romanesque baptismal font, an altarpiece from 1616, a wooden sculpture of John the Baptist and more recent altarpieces by Thomas Kluge.

The Fischer Chapel

On the north side of the church stands the Fischer Chapel, dating from 1689, built as a family burial place for Daniel Fischer of Silkeborg Castle. The chapel contains eight preserved coffins and can be viewed by arrangement with the verger.
