Møllekrogen, Floating shelter site
Spend the night on Roskilde Fjord in a floating bivouac at Møllekrogen. A unique nature experience on the water in the heart of National Park Skjoldungernes Land.

Floating campsite at Møllekrogen
At Møllekrogen in the northern part of National Park Skjoldungernes Land, a truly special overnight experience awaits on Roskilde Fjord. Here, you can paddle out and spend the night in a floating bivouac, surrounded by the open fjord landscape, the sound of birds and gentle waves. The floating campsite offers a new way to experience the fjord, with nature close by both day and night.
Spend the night on Roskilde Fjord
The floating campsite is a platform that can be unfolded on arrival into a bivouac directly above the water. When not in use, it looks like a simple timber raft and blends naturally into the surroundings near the small harbour at Møllekrogen. The night is spent to the sound of birds, soft ripples and the fjord’s distinctive atmosphere as darkness and calm settle in.
The platform is anchored so that the opening turns into shelter when the wind picks up. Overnight stays are at your own responsibility, and wearing a life jacket while on deck is recommended. You must be at least 13 years old to stay overnight in the floating bivouac.
Paddle out with the national park’s canoes
To reach the floating campsite, you cross about 100 metres of water from Møllekrogen. The crossing can be done by kayak or in one of the national park’s canoes, available at Møllekrogen and Gershøj. The canoes are free to use, unlocked with an SMS code, and include paddles and life jackets in various sizes.
The canoes are first come, first served, while the floating campsite must be booked in advance via friluftsguiden.dk. This is also where the code to open the bivouac is provided. The campsite can be booked from around 1 April to 15 October and is not available outside this period.
Part of the national park’s nature
The floating campsite supports the national park’s work with sustainable outdoor life on Roskilde Fjord. It is placed to gather use in one spot and help protect sensitive areas such as bird breeding and resting sites.
Using the floating campsite is based on trust and consideration: take all rubbish back to land, close the bivouac after use, and show respect for nature and other visitors. With shared care, the campsite can remain a great experience for many.
The floating campsite at Møllekrogen is the first of its kind. A similar floating campsite is also located at Roskilde Vig and can be booked as well. Both sites create new ways to experience Roskilde Fjord and the national park’s landscape.
