The History of Skovpavillonen
- 1827: The recreational forest in Assens was established on four and a half acres of land donated by the king.
- 1828: Plants for the forest were provided on the recommendation of Prince Christian Frederik, later King Christian IX.
- 1842: The recreational forest was expanded by including the area north of Møllebækken.
- 1852: Confectioner Ernst established the restaurant "Sofhienhøj," renamed "Kildens Minde" the following year.
- 1855: Musician Frederik Larsen started organizing concerts in the forest.
- 1861: Innkeeper Schweitz created a "Tivoli en miniature" at the forest’s western entrance.
- 1881: A committee of Assens residents initiated the construction of a pavilion.
- 1885: Skovpavillonen was inaugurated on June 24 following the formation of a joint-stock company for the project.
- 1918: A music pavilion was added to Skovpavillonen at the suggestion of Assens Orchestra.
- 1980s: The pavilion was nearly demolished due to lack of maintenance, but local residents raised funds to preserve it.
- 2000: The municipality wanted to sell the pavilion; funds for its purchase were secured through the sale of pavilion shares.
- 2002: A new roof was installed with support from foundations, and windows were replaced.
- 2008: Further improvements included a new roof over the veranda and archway, as well as renovations to the terrace and entrance area.
- 2010/11: A major kitchen renovation was initiated with support from foundations, including the A.P. Møller Foundation and Oticon Foundation.
- Today: Skovpavillonen is run as an independent institution supported by volunteers who contribute to its maintenance and development.
