The Varna Mansion by Aarhus Bay
With its magnificent location in Marselisborg Forest and views of Aarhus Bay, the Varna Mansion - Varna Palæet -, has a long and fascinating history. The iconic building was created in connection with the National Exhibition in Aarhus in 1909, designed by architect Eggert C. Achen. With its beautiful design, Varna was quickly recognised as one of the finest forest restaurants in the Nordic region.
Beautiful views and historical roots
The name ‘Varna’ means ‘beautiful view’ and was probably given by Baron Christian A. Gersdorff, who found inspiration in the Bulgarian harbour town of Varna. The area had already been a popular excursion destination for Aarhus residents, who could sail there on steamboats from Aarhus Harbour.
From party palace to popular restaurant
In the years following its opening, Varna Palace became known for its legendary parties, concerts and carnivals. Over the years, celebrities have entertained guests, and the venue has had many lives - from exclusive country house to popular restaurant. After a major renovation in 2010, Varna opened its doors once again, and today you can enjoy the venue as both a venue and a restaurant where history and quality go hand in hand.
Varna and the Infinite Bridge
Right by the Varna Palace you'll also find the famous Infinite Bridge, Den Uendelige Bro - a round, circular bridge that goes out into the sea and gives you a unique experience of walking on water. The combination of Varna's historical charm and the modern, artistic expression of the Infinite Bridge makes the area an unforgettable destination for both culture and nature enthusiasts.
