Anchor at Hvalpsund Harbour

The anchor at Hvalpsund Harbor was raised in 1980 by a fishing trawler and is now a symbol of the maritime history in the area.

In Hvalpsund Harbor today stands a large, old wooden anchor that was caught by a fishing trawler from Hirtshals in the North Sea in 1980. The anchor carries a long and fascinating history, as it is estimated to be over 200 years old.

The Esphavn fishing family donated the large anchor to the Civic Association in Hvalpsund, and it was erected at the fishing harbor on a festive occasion in 2001.

Here, you can now sit on benches and gaze out over the waters of the Limfjord, reminiscing about the times of sailing ships and many small fishing trawlers.
