Asnæs Reef
Asnæs Rev near Kalundborg offers strong currents, varied seabed and outstanding sea trout fishing. A classic coastal fishing spot in West Zealand with rocks, kelp and plenty of fish – perfect for the dedicated angler.

Asnæs Rev – One of West Zealand's Most Productive Fishing Spots
At the tip of the Asnæs peninsula, where Asnæs Rev extends into Kalundborg Fjord, currents from several directions converge to create a natural gathering point for fish of many species. The reef sits in Kalundborg Municipality and is one of those fishing spots along the West Zealand coast that keeps coming up in conversations among experienced coastal anglers – not because it is a secret, but because it simply delivers. Strong currents, varied seabed and proximity to deeper water make Asnæs Rev a classic along the West Zealand shoreline.
The Reef and Its Fish
What makes Asnæs Rev special is the combination of stones, seaweed and current. The bottom is uneven and varied with larger rocks, kelp belts and patches of sand in between. This exact mix attracts small fish and crustaceans, which in turn draw the larger predatory fish. Sea trout is the main attraction, and bright fish are caught here throughout much of the year. The spring months bring the classic ascending fish, while autumn delivers fat-finned sea trout close to shore. Garfish arrive in shoals as the water warms, and patient anglers also stand a chance at flatfish on the sandy stretches between the stones.
The currents at the reef deserve respect. The water can pull hard, especially during tidal changes, and it pays to wade carefully and know your own limits. In return, the current is precisely the reason the fishing here is so rewarding – the constant water movement carries food and keeps the fish active and hunting.
Practical Information for Anglers
Asnæs Rev is accessible from the coast at the northern tip of the peninsula. Parking is limited, but there is room for a few cars along the small roads leading down to the water. Many anglers prefer to arrive early in the morning or late in the evening, partly to avoid crowding and partly because the fishing is often best during the quiet hours. Wading is part of the experience here – with proper wading boots or waders you can reach the best spots where the stones end and the sandbars begin.
The Kalundborg area boasts an impressive concentration of quality fishing spots along its coast. From Røsnæs in the west to Reesrø in the south, kilometre after kilometre of productive coastline stretches out, and Asnæs Rev is just one of the places that make the region something special for coastal anglers from across Zealand and beyond.
Nature Around Asnæs
While fishing is the obvious reason to visit Asnæs Rev, the nature surrounding the peninsula is an experience in its own right. The landscape is characterised by open coastal terrain with fields stretching right down to the waterline and a horizon that on clear days reaches far across Kalundborg Fjord. Birdlife is rich, especially during migration seasons, and it is not unusual to spot cormorants, oystercatchers and wading birds along the reef while waiting for the next strike. In winter, you may be lucky enough to see eider ducks and other sea ducks out on the fjord.
The nearby Røsnæs peninsula with its dramatic cliffs and heathland is an obvious excursion for those wanting to combine fishing with nature walks. The town of Kalundborg is within easy reach and offers shopping, dining and cultural experiences, including the distinctive five-towered church.
