Feldballe Church

Feldballe Church and its surroundings have a long and fascinating history that reflects the unique character of the place. Near Langesø, a brick kiln from the 13th century was found and investigations showed that the bricks from the kiln matched the monk stones in Feldballe Church.

Several years ago, a brick kiln dating back to the 13th century was excavated near Langesø in Feldballe parish. Brick remains were compared to the monks' stones in Feldballe Church, and clay samples from an area called the Red Graves proved that the stones of Feldballe Church were both fired and moulded in the parish and from the parish's raw materials.

The builder, Marquess Stig Andersen

It was also established that the clay pits and the brick kiln supplied monk stones for Møllerup, built by Marquess Stig Andersen. As the builder of the church, he must have built the nave and chancel before he was outlawed in 1286 after the murder of King Erik Klipping in Finderup Lade.
