A church with medieval roots

Holme Church is situated in Højbjerg, south of Aarhus. The present church was built in 1882 on the site of a former Romanesque medieval church.

The church was designed by Vilhelm Theodor Walther in the Neo-Romanesque style. During a renovation in 1968, the nave was extended, and several granite blocks from the old church were reused.

Art and historical furnishings

Inside the church, you can see stained-glass windows by Valdemar Foersom Hegndal, a nave dating from around 1750 and a crucifix from around 1675.

The former altarpiece from 1637 hangs on the south side of the church. The church also houses Romanesque gravestones, altar silver from 1727 and an organ built by Marcussen & Søn.
