Lights is a new initiative at Hjerl Hede Open Air Museum. It is a Christmas walk under the open sky, where you follow a guide through the museum's historic surroundings and hear stories about Christmas traditions, beliefs and community.

Along the way, lights are turned on in the buildings the stories revolve around. You do not enter the houses, and there is no live interpretation. Two of the museum's curators, Christian Toftgaard and Lise Almbjerg, tell stories of the traditions and beliefs that have shaped Danish Christmas through time.

According to folk belief, animals could speak on Christmas Eve, and flames and signs could be read as omens for the future. Beliefs like these are part of what you encounter on the walk.

The experience is designed with a focus on calm, presence and immersion, and is especially aimed at adults. The walk takes place outdoors after dark, on firm paths.

The event is conducted in Danish only.
