Spent the night by lake and landscape

Shelter East is located on the eastern side of Lyngager Lake within the recreational nature area Lynghøjsøerne, developed in a former gravel pit near Roskilde. The shelter accommodates 6–8 people and is positioned above the lake, offering open views of the water and surrounding slopes. Its setting makes it suitable both for short stays and as a stopover on longer walking or cycling trips.

Lynghøjsøerne and the surrounding nature

Lynghøjsøerne is a public recreational area covering approximately 96 hectares and consisting of three lakes, each with its own character. The eastern lake has a more natural feel, with rich plant and wildlife habitats and a focus on experiencing nature rather than organised activities. The area borders Hyrdehøj Forest and forms part of a larger connected landscape with paths linking forest, lakes and open terrain.

Practical information

The shelter cannot be booked and is available on a first come, first served basis. A similar shelter is located on the western side of Lyngager Lake, providing additional overnight options in the area. As Lynghøjsøerne is a public nature area, visitors are encouraged to show consideration for both nature and other users.

Access, parking and routes

There are three parking areas with access from, among other places, Lyngageren, 4000 Roskilde. The nearest parking areas are approximately 800 metres from Shelter East. The area offers good connections to walking and cycling routes, including the Panoramic Route and National Cycle Route 430, which can be reached about 1 km from the shelter at Svogerslev Hovedgade.
