MAPS - Museum of Art in Public Spaces - Køge
MAPS is one of the only museums in the world dedicated to exploring, communicating, and debating art in public spaces.

MAPS – Museum of Art in Public Space
MAPS is Denmark’s museum for art in public space.
We are based in Køge, but our field extends far beyond the museum’s four walls. We work with art where people live, move and meet: in the city, in the landscape and in the public spaces we share.
At MAPS, you can experience exhibitions that explore the role of art in public space, from the first ideas, sketches and studies to the finished works that become part of our surroundings. Our collection brings together artistic processes, perspectives and preliminary works that reveal how art in public space is imagined, developed and realised. Some of the works trace the development of public art you may already have encountered. Others were never realised, but offer insight into the artists’ working processes, ideas and visions for how art might take its place in the spaces we share.
MAPS collects, documents and shares knowledge about art in public space, both in Denmark and internationally. We preserve this knowledge for future generations and make it accessible today.
MAPS is a living museum in constant motion, with new art projects, programmes and partnerships. Through our programme; Tomorrow’s Public Art, we realise a new work of art in Køge each year, in close collaboration with international artists, citizens and local communities. Through Creative Partnerships, we build bridges between artists, organisations, cities and other actors in society. And through MAPS 24/7, our nationwide app available and free to everyone, we make public art visible, accessible and alive across the entire country.
MAPS is a museum you can visit in Køge, and encounter across the country.
