A new narrative in pop art

Marisol (born Maria Sol Escobar) was one of the few women to gain recognition on the American pop art scene in the 1960s. Her works combine sculpture, painting, and performance with a strong feminist and political tone. This is the first major presentation of her work in Scandinavia.

Sculpture, satire, and society

With colourful and often satirical figures, Marisol commented on social structures, celebrity culture, and gender roles. She used her own body, humour, and distorted proportions to explore the role of art as both critic and mirror.

An international artist with Latin American roots

Born in Paris to Venezuelan parents, Marisol grew up in both Venezuela and the USA. Her diverse background is reflected in her art, where she merges American pop aesthetics with Latin American folklore and political awareness.

Louisiana brings renewed attention

This large-scale exhibition brings well-deserved attention to Marisol’s legacy. Louisiana places her among the key voices of post-war art, offering visitors a rare chance to experience her iconic and lesser-known works.
