The Princess Tree
The Princess Tree was once the most famous tree in Rold Skov. It got its name after the three princesses Margrethe, Benedikte and Anne-Marie crawled through the tree’s eye-shaped opening in 1952.

The Princess Tree
The Princess Tree was once the most famous tree in Rold Skov. It stood in Troldeskoven and was a special “eye tree”, where the beech trunks had grown together to form the shape of an eye.
In the past, people believed that eye trees could cure rickets if you crawled through the opening. On 12 August 1952, the three princesses Margrethe, Benedikte and Anne-Marie crawled through the tree – and afterwards it became known as the Princess Tree.
The tree fell during the summer storm on 23 July 1994, but the story lives on. Today, you can find another eye tree with two openings in Troldeskoven, which visitors can crawl through. On the terrace at RebildPorten, you can also see a wooden sculpture inspired by the original Princess Tree.
Find Troldeskoven and the eye tree on the Rold Skov map as point number 7.
