An open church in Trøjborg

St John’s Church is located in Trøjborg, Aarhus, and is part of the Danish National Church in Aarhus. The church is a peaceful place in the heart of the city, where you can step inside, find tranquillity and experience architecture, art and history close to the city centre.

History, architecture and art

The church was consecrated in 1905 and was designed by architect Hack Kampmann. The striking church tower is a distinctive feature of the building and also serves as a navigation beacon for Aarhus Harbour.

Inside the church, you can admire glass mosaics by Arne Haugen Sørensen. The mosaics were installed between 2005 and 2018 and depict, among other things, the Nativity, the Crucifixion, the Resurrection and the Prodigal Son.

The Biblical Garden

Surrounding the church is the Biblical Garden, which was laid out in 2018. The garden has been created as a peaceful area for socialising and contemplation, featuring plants with biblical references.
