The White Beach Huts
Each summer, from May to September, rows of small white houses create a striking sight along the shore, giving rise to what is fondly known as The White Town on Løkken Beach.

Løkken Beach Huts
There are approximately 500 private beach huts in Løkken during the summer. They form ‘The White Town’. The locals enjoy the beach and the North Sea from here. Travelers can enjoy the city symbol and the special sight of the light reflecting off a range of white huts.
Pearls on a string
On the beach in Løkken, the white beach huts stand like pearls on a string. Originally, the huts were small structures on wheels that were pulled down to the beach to serve as changing rooms for hotel guests.
A big success
In 1925, the construction of private beach huts reached its peak, and the design of the huts evolved to include windows. At the same time, sea bathing became a popular activity among the public. The beach huts soon became too successful, as they were increasingly decorated and used as holiday cottages. This practice was brought to an end in 1933, when overnight stays in the huts were prohibited.
Later, regulations were introduced to ensure that the huts were placed in straight rows and painted white. They are typically positioned 10–15 meters from the edge of the dunes, allowing their facades to form either a straight line or a gentle, regular curve.
Local Ownership
The vast majority of the beach huts are owned by local residents. The right to place a hut on the beach is granted by the municipality, after which the owner must acquire the hut themselves. There are specific regulations governing the size and design of the huts.
The huts are often passed down through generations, although the beach permit must still be obtained through the municipality. Overnight stays are not permitted, but during the day and evening, locals enjoy the summer atmosphere and the view of the North Sea from their beach huts.
The municipality has authorized a total of 485 beach huts along the shore, locally referred to as “the bathing houses”. The waiting list for new permits has been closed, and it is currently not possible to apply for a beach permit.
Travelers Can Enjoy the Sight
Although many visitors express interest, it is not permitted to rent the huts to guests. Nevertheless, the beach huts are an integral part of the Løkken experience and have become iconic town landmarks, alongside the signal mast and the water tower in the dunes by Løkken Beach.
Beach Huts in the Townscape
The beach huts are a defining feature of Løkken and have inspired the interior design of several local businesses, including the fashion shop Levins, where the fitting rooms are designed as miniature beach huts.
Restaurant Løkken Badehotel has also incorporated the theme by decorating a separate room as a beach hut, which can be rented for special events. In addition, the clothing shop BASIC sells miniature beach huts as popular souvenirs.
