Route description

The route begins in the more hilly part of the island’s vast central forest areas. Vestermarie Plantation marks the southern starting point, and the first kilometres take you up and down through rolling terrain.

On your way north through Almindingen, you will pass the lake Puggekullekær and the marshland Vættesmose. From here, the landscape becomes flatter as the route follows long and peaceful forest roads through deep spruce woodland.

Halfway through, the route turns south again and passes the edge of the quiet wetland area of Hagemyr. The journey continues south before climbing towards Rytterknægten via the short but steep Klokkerpiltvej.

You will pass through the bison forest, and if you are lucky – and keep a close eye out – you may spot the bison standing along the fence line. The route then follows the beautiful Grønnevadsvej, winding past grazing cattle and striking rocky outcrops.

Along the way, you will also pass the early medieval fortress Lilleborg before the tour ends with a rewarding and challenging climb to Rytterknægten.
