A peaceful stop on your fjord journey

The shelter by the Roar hut is tucked away in the shelter of low scrub on a 10,000 m² campsite next to the distinctive red scout hut in Lejre Vig on Roskilde Fjord. There is space for 4–5 people, and the shelter is located just 20 metres from the stony beach and the calm fjord waters. The area is ideal as a resting point on a longer journey along the fjord, whether you arrive on foot, by bicycle or by boat.

For travelling outdoor guests only

The shelter cannot be booked and is used on a first-come, first-served basis. Overnight stays of 1–2 nights are permitted exclusively for outdoor guests travelling on foot, by bicycle or via the water. Arrival by car is not permitted, and parking on site is not allowed, helping to preserve the tranquillity and the close-to-nature experience.

Simple outdoor living with limited facilities

Staying at the Roar hut is simple and without luxury. There is no possibility for pitching tents or lighting fires. During periods when the scout hut is open, the toilet may be used, and there is an outdoor water tap by the workshop building. The site must be left tidy, and all rubbish must be taken away.

Beach, bathing and respect for nature

The campsite stretches all the way down to the water and has its own beach as well as a bathing jetty during the summer season. Roskilde Fjord is home to rich birdlife, and the islands and islets are protected to safeguard nesting birds. From 1 April to 15 July, access is prohibited, and movement within 50 metres of islands and islets is not allowed – respecting nature is an essential part of the experience.

Walking routes and fjord life

The area around the Roar hut invites active days in nature, where water, trails and the fjord landscape come together at a relaxed pace.

  • The Fjord Trail, Regional Route 40 for cyclists and walkers, passes approximately 250 metres from the site along Hornsherredvej
  • Canoe and kayak: Easy landing as the site slopes gently down to the water
  • Sailing boat: 3.5 km to Gershøj Marina and 2.5 km to Lyndby Marina, both with guest berths and part of the Free Harbour scheme
  • Swimming: Private beach and bathing jetty during the summer season
  • Fishing: Good opportunities for sea trout fishing from the shore approx. 1.3 km south of the site near the Maritime Test Centre and Lyndby Viking Ship Guild

Whether you follow the fjord trail on foot or by bicycle, arrive from the water or simply enjoy the tranquillity by the coast, the shelter at the Roar hut is a simple and atmospheric stop on your journey along Roskilde Fjord.
